"I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me,
and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit:
for without me ye can do nothing." John 15:5

THE STOCK OF WOOD
by Donna M. Davis

Some men put their trust and faith
In gods they carved from a stock of wood
But I put stock in the One True God
Who made the tree, that one time stood
The gods they carved can't see or hear
And feel no pity when men cry
God formed the man that carved the wood
And the tears of man He does dry

Man has a vivid imagination
On how to put God's trees to use
For they cut them down to the ground
And one certain tree was used for abuse
For, they abused the perfect Son of God
By nailing Him on boards they had crossed
They hung Him on the tree He made
Yet He prayed, Father don't let their souls be lost

God's trees were made for man's shelter
They were made to warm his hide
When piled just right, they make a perfect stove
Yet on a tree, the dear Savior died
How much it must hurt the heart of God
To see men bow down to the stock of a tree
For, on a tree cut down by the man He made
His Son died for you and for me
